Mbappe absent for Pachuca clash, could miss Salzburg match

Kylian Mbappe will not have fond memories of his stay in the United States for the FIFA Club World Cup. The Real Madrid striker has been suffering from acute gastroenteritis, which puts his participation in the entire group stage of the tournament in jeopardy.
The striker already missed the debut of Xabi Alonso's team, which drew in Miami against Al-Hilal, after spending the day in his room with a fever. But that led to stomach problems that worsened until he had to be hospitalised on Thursday.
Doctors had to give him serum to combat dehydration and give him strong medication to reduce the fever, which continued to plague him. Finally, after several hours, Mbappe improved and was released from hospital, as reported by Real Madrid. But the process does not end here.
Mbappe is not feeling well and is still not even close to playing. The journalist of ‘El Chiringuito’ Edu Aguirre assured that the ‘Merengue’ striker is out for the second matchday against Pachuca, but he is also a serious doubt to close the group stage against Salzburg.
Apparently, the recovery period given to Kylian Mbappe by the doctors for him to be at 100% is about ten days. But Xabi Alonso's side play this Sunday 22nd with Pachuca and in the night of June 26th to 27th (Spanish time) against Salzburg, in a week's time.
Times are quite tight and it will depend on the coaching staff and the player if he wants to force. Youth product Gonzalo already played and scored against Al-Hilal, and is expected to repeat against the Mexican team. Real Madrid can no longer afford another setback and needs the three points to reach the last matchday with peace of mind.
