Kepa set to leave Madrid as Spanish goalkeeper to return to Chelsea in June

Kepa Arrizabalaga joined Real Madrid from Chelsea this summer on loan to fill the gaping void left by Courtois, who suffered a cruciate ligament injury before the season had even started. 

The Spanish goalkeeper was signed by the 'Mernegues' to be Carlo Ancelotti's first choice goalkeeper but as the games went on and after a muscle injury that kept him out for around three weeks, the Blues' loanee dropped down the pecking order behind Andriy Lunin. 

The Ukrainian goalkeeper of 'Los Blancos' knew how to take the opportunity and thanks to his good performances he has managed to win the confidence of the Spanish team's board, who have decided to offer him a new contract to extend his continuity at the Santiago Bernabeu. 

With Courtois set to return if his recovery from his second knee injury continues, and given Lunin's recent performances, Real Madrid have decided that they will not attempt to keep Kepa and that the Spanish goalkeeper will return to Stamford Bridge in June once his loan spell is over. 

However, the former Athletic Club keeper is far from assured of a place in the starting XI due to the importance of Robert Sanchez in the squad, so a decision will have to be made this summer between the club and the player regarding his future.
