Gundogan hesitating on Barcelona, Lo Celso is backup

This season has been a historic one for Gundogan. City's captain this season can boast of having won the treble. But now he has the hardest task: deciding what to do next season, as his contract expires on June 30, 2023. His club has made him an improved renewal offer to prevent him from leaving for Barca, a club to which he has already given his word.

The decision seems complicated enough that the German has asked Barcelona for time to make a decision. According to 'Marca', he reportedly asked for an extra week to give them an answer. Gundogan has not only asked Barca for time, but also City and other clubs interested in signing him, such as Arsenal and PSG. 

At Camp Nou they understand that he needs to think about it and they are not going to hassle him. They are confident that the promise he gave them will be maintained no matter how many offers other clubs, including City, may make to him. 

This week of reflection could help Gundogan to be convinced to go to Camp Nou .... Or for him to decide on another proposal. Barca know it and, therefore, has already sought an alternative. The outlet reports that the Catalan club has noted the name of Giovani Lo Celso in its diary.

The Argentinian spent the last season at Villarreal, on loan from Tottenham. This summer, he'll return to London, and the club will have to decide what they do with him.

'Marca' reports that Xavi thinks well of the player. Currently, they are yet to make a proposal, but they could be ready to if Gundogan decides to turn them down. 

Another option could be Villarreal's Baena, who would also fit the bill. The difficulty with him is his heavy price, which is a large deterrent for the club at this point.
