Davies' agent slams Canada Soccer after star's ACL injury

Bayern Munich confirmed on Wednesday that Alphonso Davies has suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his right knee, ruling him out for "several months" and likely ending his season. The 24-year-old Canadian international sustained the injury just 12 minutes into Canada's 2-1 victory over the United States in the Concacaf Nations League third-place match on Sunday.
Davies' agent, Nedal Huoseh, has publicly criticised Canada Soccer and head coach Jesse Marsch for their handling of the situation, claiming that Davies was not fully fit and had not been expected to start the match. Huoseh stated, "As a captain, I feel he was pressured to start the game by the coach. Alphonso is not the kind of guy to say no in those moments".
The injury comes as a significant blow to both Bayern Munich and the Canadian national team, with Davies having recently extended his contract with the German club until 2030. Bayern's sporting director, Max Eberl, expressed disappointment at the timing of the injury, noting the risks associated with international breaks.
Canada Soccer has yet to respond publicly to Huoseh's allegations, but spokesperson Paulo Senra defended the organisation, stating that their coaches and medical staff "have always prioritised player safety and wellbeing". The incident has sparked debate about the management of players' fitness during international duty and the pressures faced by young stars.
Davies is now set to undergo surgery, with his recovery timeline potentially impacting his participation in next year's World Cup, which Canada will co-host.
