Xavi suspended for two matches but available for 'El Clasico'

Jose Maria Sanchez Martinez sent Xavi off in the Atletico-Barcelona clash for shouting at him, according to the report, and for "disrespect" towards the referee. The sanction was finally two matches, although the board had expected him to be suspended for three matches.

As a result, he will not be on the bench for Barcelona's upcoming La Liga matches against Las Palmas and Cadiz. Meanwhile, he will be able to lead his side against PSG in the Champions League, as the suspension only affects the domestic competition.

The coach will return to his position for the La Liga matchday 32 fixture against Real Madrid, which will be played on 21st April at the Santiago Bernabeu.

The Committee explains that Xavi will have to serve "a two-match suspension for protesting to the referee", which also carries an "additional fine of 700 euros for the club and 600 euros for the offender".

But Barcelona are not going to stand idly by with this sanction. According to 'COPE', the Catalan club plan to lodge an appeal with the Appeals Committee.
