William Carvalho leaves Real Betis by mutual consent

William Carvalho has left Real Betis Balompie. The Portuguese midfielder departs after agreeing to terminate his contract, which was due to expire on 30 June 2026.
"Real Betis and William Carvalho have mutually agreed to part ways after seven seasons together," read the club's official statement. This brings an end to the Betis career of the foreign player with the most appearances in the club's history.
Carvalho made 223 official appearances. Despite his limited contribution this season, he surpassed the 218 appearances of Mexican player Andres Guardado and further distanced himself from Brazilian Denilson (207) and Argentinian German Pezzella (179).
The 80-cap Portugal international arrived at Real Betis in the summer of 2018 from Sporting CP. Arriving at 25, he departs at 33, after a significant career that had its low points, but shone brightly through his standout performances in the 2022 Copa del Rey – including a superb goal against Rayo in the semi-finals – and his pivotal role in European qualification, particularly under Manuel Pellegrini.
