"We looked like gladiators in the Coliseum" - Carvajal on iconic Man City comeback

There are countless matches in the memory of the 'Madridistas', but there is one that left a mark for everything that happened. That was the clash against City in the second leg of the Champions League 2022 semifinals, a duel in which the 'Merengues', against all odds, forced extra time thanks to a Rodrygo brace in 89 seconds of heart-stopping play. A fact that led to the comeback in extra time and then resulted in their 14th Champions League title.
Carvajal, winner of six Champions League titles in white, recalled that moment during his speech on the third day of the Real Madrid Universidad Europea University School's White Week: “The most special night I've ever experienced was against City, I've never experienced anything like it. That feeling was unique, scoring the equaliser with 6 minutes added on and the atmosphere that was created. We looked at each other's faces and we looked like gladiators in the Coliseum”.
On the other hand, the Spanish international revealed what went through his mind when he scored the goal to win their 15th Champions League crown: “Whenever you play a match of the magnitude of the final, you always imagine that you're going to score the goal of the final. In my case, the sixth time was the charm. That feeling of scoring a goal was incredible and I felt an indescribable sense of pride.
"People will remember me for that goal I scored at Wembley, because it was the culmination of a great year. To go down in football history for the six European Cups with my five teammates is fantastic. Madrid keeps winning and has been, is and will be Real Madrid, and is above all. That's why you have to get on that boat, learn the values that the club has and take the essence of what this club means”.
Carvajal is currently recovering from a serious knee injury and his goal is to return to competition: “It's been five and a half months since the operation. I've already put on my boots and we are accumulating sessions on the field to try to be back as soon as possible, but with guarantees of arriving well”.
