Real Madrid hosted Shakhtar in a Champions League game on Wednesday. 

The home side took the lead at the Santiago Bernabeu through Karim Benzema after 14 minutes following a defensive error by Shakhtar. The Ukrainians were always looking dangerous and levelled through Fernando in the 39th minute. In the second half, the teams remained level for a while, but then Karim Benzema scored the winner just after the hour mark. Real Madrid are top of group D with nine points while Shakhtar are bottom with one. Inter are 2nd with seven while Sheriff are 3rd with six.
