On the day, there was nothing to separate the sides in the first half, with neither team able to break the deadlock. Palmeiras had to wait until the 78th minute for the winner, when club top scorer Rony converted the one and only goal of the game.

With the win, Palmeiras progress to the semi-finals of the competition where they will take on Corinthians. Should they win, they will face either Sao Paulo or Mirassol in the final to battle it out for the coveted trophy.
