Van Dijk plans quiet watch party as title hopes hang on Arsenal slip

The Liverpool captain is making tentative plans to watch Arsenal's midweek clash with Crystal Palace alongside his teammates as a defeat for the Gunners would confirm Liverpool as champions with several matches to spare.

While mathematically possible, Van Dijk believes Arsenal will likely claim all three points at the Emirates on Wednesday night, which would postpone any potential celebrations. "I think Arsenal will probably do the business at home," he admitted. "But if something unexpected happens, it would be good to experience it together."

Liverpool maintained their grip on top spot over the weekend, narrowly beating Leicester City thanks to a late strike from Trent Alexander-Arnold. Arsenal also kept pace with a comprehensive victory at Portman Road, though they remain 13 points adrift with only five games remaining.

However, Van Dijk is staying focused on the job at hand. "If Arsenal win, as they'll expect to against a strong Palace side, then we'll just look ahead to our match at the weekend," he said.

Liverpool face Tottenham next in the league, where they could secure the title themselves on Sunday—if not sooner.
