United's plan B for De Jong

It is no news to anyone that Manchester United are trying to sign Frenkie de Jong during the current transfer window. However, in the last few hours, some complications have arisen regarding the deal which have meant the Dutchman will be unable to join the English club.
Because of this, the Red Devils have begun their search for an alternative. According to 'Record', United have made an offer for Vitinha. He is a 22 year old Portuguese midfielder who currently plays his football at Porto. He has a release clause set at 40 million euros.
"There was a complete and considerable offer for Vitinha. We didn't accept it and referred them to the buy-out clause, which is the only way of enabling the player to leave us. If they come with one euro less than the price of his release clause, he won't leave", sentenced Porto's president, Pinto Da Costa, during a recent press conference.
This confirms that United have attempted to sign Vitinha, but they are still yet to reach an agreement with the Portuguese club. Coach Erik ten Hag is still awaiting the arrival of a centremidfielder that he so desires.
The Red Devils are still not giving up on the possibility of signing De Jong, but Barcelona are making it very difficult for any deal to go through. The Catalan club are asking for 100 million euros for their player.
