Tottenham agree loan deal for Joao Palhinha with Bayern Munich

Tottenham Hotspur has closed a deal with Bayern Munich for the loan of midfielder Joao Palhinha. According to sources close to the negotiation, the contract will include a purchase option set at £27 million.
Initially it was expected that the operation would be a simple loan, but finally the German club insisted on incorporating the purchase clause during the last negotiations. For Spurs, this formula gives financial leeway to address other priorities in the transfer market this summer.
The Tottenham manager's main objective remains to strengthen the attacking positions, as well as to expand the squad with a winger and a playmaker. Palhinha, 30, could return to the Premier League just a year after leaving Fulham to join Bayern for a fee of around £47.4 million.
The Portuguese international still has three more seasons left on his current contract with the German side. The good relationship between Tottenham and Bayern Munich has facilitated the talks, following recent deals for Harry Kane, Eric Dier and Mathys Tel.
The London club value Palhinha's experience and his ability to provide balance in midfield. The move also represents an opportunity for Palhinha to regain prominence in the English league after his brief spell in the Bundesliga.
