Iran, through its embassy in Colombia, commented on the news which came out about former footballer Amir Nasr-Azadani. There had been rumours he had been sentenced to death, but Iran has denied this. They claim the trial has not taken place so it is impossible for him to be executed.
The former player could be executed at any time for supporting women's human rights and the football world is quick to support the Iranian professional. The latest to speak out publicly on this issue was his former coach John Toshack.
"I remember the squad and we had a lot of young players. However, it was interesting because they were all eager to learn and progress. Amir was one of them but he had a knee injury and was still recovering when we arrived. It's outrageous. He has to be liberated. Women and men are equal," he said.
In addition, the government stated that Amir is "accused of being a member of an armed group that killed three policemen and security officers with automatic weapons".
