Toney pushes back against Bruno Fernandes over Saudi Pro League decision

Fernandes rejected a high-value offer from Al-Hilal, explaining that his priority remains competing at the highest level of football.
However, Toney, who enjoyed success in Saudi Arabia by winning the Asian Champions League with Al-Ahli in his debut season, questioned the playmaker's league assessment.
"That's his choice, of course," Toney said. "But perhaps he sees it differently because he hasn't experienced the league himself."
Toney went on to stress that the Saudi Pro League offers a strong standard of football, which many outside observers fail to appreciate due to a lack of exposure. "People often judge without actually watching the games," he added. "You need to be there to form a proper opinion."
Reflecting on his own time in Saudi Arabia, the former Brentford striker insisted the competition is tough and competitive. "If more people watched the matches live, they'd quickly understand the quality. You wouldn't dismiss it once you’ve been there," the 29-year-old remarked.
His comments highlight a growing recognition of the improving standards in Saudi football, contrasting with Fernandes' reluctance to join the burgeoning league despite its financial allure.
