Javier Tebas dreams of seeing La Liga in the United States. It remains one of the frustrated objectives of his presidency and he confirmed in an interview for 'Expansión' that it will be played abroad from the 2025-26 season.
"I don't know when, but this time it will be played abroad and it will be sooner rather than later. I think it will be from the 2025-26 season onwards, it's a goal I'm setting myself," he said, referring to his desire to expand his product beyond the borders.
Javier Tebas insisted that television broadcasting in the United States is not enough: "It is not enough to broadcast the matches. Playing there will strengthen our position in the North American market, which is the second largest for La Liga. There are other very competitive leagues coming and we can't do the same thing all the time."
"We have to do different things. We have to be at the cutting edge technologically and do things like take a game abroad. It's a very important strategic issue," he concluded about his biggest ambition since he became president of La Liga.
