The Story of a return and debut that ended in tears

The German referee Felix Brych sent him off after consulting with his goal line official after a passage of play where Ronaldo had a coming together with Jeyson Murillo. After the centre-back fell to the floor, the Portuguese made a gesture by tapping him on the head telling him to get up.

After seeing red, Ronaldo left the pitch insisting he had done nothing wrong. he took more than two minutes to leave the field of play and when he did he was consoled by Marcelino Garcia Toral, Valencia's coach.

On his return to the Mestalla, Ronaldo was the focus of taunts from the home fans, who enthusiastically celebrated his sending off, which could impact his involvement in the coming games against Manchester United, the other team which hold a special place in his heart.

It will depend whether UEFA deem the incident to be serious or not as to whether Ronaldo will be allowed a reunion with the 'red devils' in Italy on the 7th of November when the second phase of the group stage begins.
