The most decorated footballer in history retires

The Brazilian fullback, now 36 years of age, played the final of the French cup, which was to be his last match as an active professional footballer. One last battle... one last trophy.

Maxwell retires as the most decorated footballer in history of the game.  A staggering 37 trophies sit in his showcase. Spectacular. A myth like Ryan Giggs hung up his boots at the age of 36. 

The Brazilian has only played for five clubs across his career, but always found himself beign part of the winning cycles of each team he represented. Cruzeiro, Ajax, Inter, Barcelona and PSG colour the fabric of Maxwell's career. 

With Cruzeiro he won one trophy, with Ajax six, with Inter he would lift five titles, with Barça he earned 10 medals, and with PSG, 15.

In total, 37 title between League titles, Cups and Supercups. The Champions League in 2011 is his most notable honour. 

Maxwell could not stop the floods of tears from his eyes during his goodbye to football. He leaves the game with a resume that, to date, has yet to be matched by anyone in the history of football.
