The day Nicolo Fagioli cried in a match because of his debts

For several days now, Nicolo Fagioli has been the focus of media attention around the world after receiving a 7-month suspension for betting on sports on illegal websites over many months.

The Italian player has confessed to the offences, cooperated with the courts to negotiate his punishment, and is being closely monitored to treat his gambling addiction. In court, the 'Bianconeri' recalled an afternoon in April 2023 and a 1-0 defeat at Sassuolo.

That day, Juventus conceded a goal after Fagioli lost the ball in his own box, and he was immediately substituted. He was then seen weeping and inconsolable on the substitutes' bench in front of the television cameras.

He finally admitted that the reason for his condition was not solely due to his blunder during the match. "I was thinking about my betting debt," he told the Turin Federal Prosecutor's Office, referring to a loss of nearly €3 million on sports betting sites.
