Tarkowski admits mistake after controversial tackle in Merseyside derby

The Everton defender, who was fortunate to avoid a red card for the tackle, spoke openly about the incident and expressed regret for his actions. In the intense clash between Everton and Liverpool, Tarkowski's challenge on Mac Allister was a pivotal moment.

The Argentinian midfielder was fortunate to escape without injury, but Tarkowski later acknowledged that the tackle was dangerous and unintentional. "When the ball came to us, I expected him to commit to a 50-50 challenge, but he pulled out," he explained in an interview with Optus Sport.

"I lunged in and unfortunately followed through, catching him high. I apologised to him, and he accepted it." His apology came after the Professional Game Match Officials Limited (PGMOL) admitted that the referee made an error in not issuing a red card for the challenge.

The defender's actions were later scrutinised, but the centre-back stressed that the incident was not malicious. "It wasn't a great tackle," he stated, acknowledging the misstep on his part.

Despite the controversy surrounding the tackle, the match continued, and Liverpool managed to secure a narrow 1-0 win, with Diogo Jota scoring the match-winner in the second half.
