Szczesny in talks with Barcelona to extend his contract until 2027

On 27th August 2024, Wojciech Szczesny announced his retirement from professional football after leaving Juventus. As of March 2025, the Polish goalkeeper is very close to securing his future at FC Barcelona until at least 2027. Last summer, not even he himself would have believed this turnaround in his career.
According to journalist Adria Albets on ‘SER Catalunya’ on Monday, Szczesny is ready to renew his contract and has already sat down with Barca's sporting management to discuss his contract extension. When he signed on October 2nd, the goalkeeper signed until June 30th. Now he can go further.
At the moment, what the club is proposing to ‘Tek’ is a renewal for one season, until the summer of 2026, and the possibility of extending the agreement if certain objectives are reached until 2027. The club are very happy with the attitude and work rate of the 34-year-old Pole, who has lost nine kg in weight since his arrival and Hansi Flick sees him as undisputed starter.
According to the aforementioned media, the intention is that Wojciech Szczesny will no longer sit on the bench for the remainder of the season. Unless there is a physical problem or an unexpected dip in form, the goalkeeper has the full confidence of Flick and even if Marc-Andre ter Stegen returns early from injury, the Pole will continue to be in goal, especially in a crucial stretch of the season like this one, where the ‘Cules’ are playing for La Liga, the Copa del Rey final and the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
With Szczesny in goal, Barca have conceded 16 goals in the 16 matches they have played, have never lost any of them (14 wins and two draws) and have kept eight clean sheets, half of them. The numbers back up the goalkeeper, who has overtaken Inaki Pena. Joshua Barnett, the player's agent, recently spoke of his continuity: "He is delighted at Barcelona and Barça are very happy with him, so we can easily reach an agreement".
