The coronavirus pandemic has devastated economies across the world. The players in the Allsvenskan and Superettan (Sweedish first and second divisions) have taken pay cuts to try and help the women's game in their country, setting a great example for the sporting world.
The Sweedish FA has announced that players in those divisions have halved their wages and paid the rest to players in the Damallsvenskan (the women's football league in Sweeden). The women's game in Sweeden has been badly hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.
The gesture has received support from across the world of football and sport in general.
The President of the Sweedish FA Karl Erik Nilsson explained that women's clubs will receive 490 000 euros to cover players' wages.
