Following their 3-3 draw against Portugal, Spain need to beat Iran on Wednesday evening to stand a good chance of qualifying out of Group B.
However, as revealed by 'AS', the Iberian giants have never been defeated by an Asian side in all 13 of their encounters with the continent.
The head-to-head of those duels stands at eleven victories and two draws, with those coming in the 1994 and 2002 World Cup.
The most recent clashes between the two have ended very favourably for Spain, recording a 5-0 win over Saudi Arabia in 2012 and a 6-1 victory over South Korea in 2016.
But as Iran and Spain have never faced one another in a competitive or friendly match, it is set to be a unique clash later at the Kazan Arena.
