Scotland choosing to focus on South American tour positives

Scotland face Peru at the Estadio Nacional de Lima on Wednesday morning at 02:00 (BST) to kick off their tour of South America.

However, the scheduling of a long-haul trip so close to the end of the season has drawn a lot of criticism as well as seeing a host of key players drop out. 

It means Scotland will have to face two World Cup-bound sides without their full-strength squad, but that isn't a concern for Mulgrew.

He told reporters: "There's never been any negatives mentioned since we've met up. It's all be positive.

"Training's been positive, the atmosphere about the place has been positive," said the 32-year-old. "It's two games for our country.

"We're all delighted to be here and we're looking forward to playing the match and putting on a performance and fighting for Scotland again.

"It's good to have new faces in the squad. It's going to be a big challenge for us but one we're looking forward to and one hopefully we can relish."

Mulgrew is likely to don the international armband for the game against Peru and he had some advice for the younger members.

"I would say: 'Just enjoy the game, try to take the opportunity to be in the squad more regularly and try to get a result'". 

After Peru, Scotland then face Mexico on Sunday before returning home for the summer.
