Sarri asks Lazio to sign Mertens

Dries Mertens' contract at Napoli ends in less than a month's time and Lazio could be his new destination. There have not been any recent developments on his new contract or on interest from AC Milan which had been leaked. That means, Maurizio Sarri could end up signing him.
'Il Messaggero' reports that the coach got in contact with the board to ask about his arrival. At the moment, negotiations are not at an advanced stage, but it has now been revealed that Mertens wants to earn two million euros a season and sign until 2024.
These conditions are possible to meet because the club would not have to have pay to sign him and could use the money saved to pay his salary, which is not a large one either. It will all depend on whether other teams show interest and make the footballer consider other options in the market.
What is sure is that, if he decides to join Lazio, he would have a very good chance of starting. He has been in Serie A since the 2013-14 season and he has made 295 appearances. He has scored 113 goals and given 58 assists. He would not need adaptation time and he could have an almost immediate impact on the squad.
