"Sadly, this happens all too often in Madrid"

Bayern Munich finished very angry with Marciniak's refereeing in their Champions League semi-final defeat to Real Madrid. The German side believe that they were disadvantaged in several actions, particularly in the one that ended in De Ligt's equaliser that did not count.

Many voices have even claimed that the Polish referee had apologised for his mistake. One of the most emphatic was Thomas Muller. "The referee didn't go to the VAR. He didn't even give himself the chance to go and look at it. A situation like that is very strange, to whistle so quickly," said the German midfielder in the mixed zone.

"It's an unbelievable decision. Normally they let us run 3 metres until they finally blow the whistle. I don't know what happened," the Bayern Munich player added.

Muller then recalled what he had already experienced at the Santiago Bernabeu: "Sadly, this happens very often in Madrid. It already happened to me in 2017 with two goals from Ronaldo... but that was before the VAR".

The truth is that in that tie, Bayern Munich claimed that 2 of Cristiano Ronaldo's 3 goals had been offside. But as Muller recalled, there was no video refereeing on that occasion.
