Ronaldo eyes up World Cup Golden Boot

A hat-trick against Spain during a thrilling 3-3 draw catapulted Ronaldo to first place in the race for the Golden Boot, where he has since been joined by Russia's Denis Cheryshev.
However, the host nation has played a game more so Ronaldo will be hoping to edge in front again when his Iberian side take on Morocco on Wednesday afternoon.
Normally for a World Cup, between five to six goals is enough to finish as the tournament's top goalscorer with Colombia's James Rodriguez winning it in 2014 with six.
The only expection was in 2002, where Brazil's Ronaldo found the back of the net eight times in South Korea and Japan.
Therefore, Cristiano is in a great position going into the rest of the competition considering he already has three goals - the same amount he has scored in his previous three World Cups.
To achieve his goal, the Real Madrid forward will need Portugal to go far in the knock-out stages or enjoy a similar prolific performances against his group rivals Morocco and Iran.
He will also need his competitors to falter. Behind himself and Cheryshev, there are a host of players on two goals: Romelu Lukaku, Diego Costa, Harry Kane and Artem Dzyuba.
That's not to mention the danger that other players pose. Many would expect Antoine Griezmann, Sergio Aguero, Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Neymar to turn on the afterburners at some point.
However, it does seem to be Ronaldo's Golden Boot to lose. An incredible 2018 with Real has translated into the World Cup seamlessly and there appears to be no stopping as to how high he could go in Russia.
