Rodri and Morata given one-game bans for 'Gibraltar is Spanish' chants

Spanish national team players Alvaro Morata and Rodrigo Hernandez have been given a one-match ban by UEFA for chanting "Gibraltar es español" (Gibraltar is Spanish). The chants were made on 15 July in Madrid during the celebrations after winning the European Championship in Germany.

Following the opening of disciplinary proceedings, the body's Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEBD) has decided to ban both players from "the next UEFA team competition match due to violations of the basic rules of decent conduct, the use of sporting events for non-sporting demonstrations and bringing the sport of football into disrepute".

The Gibraltar Football Association (FA) lodged an official complaint on 16 July, as well as requesting an investigation into the case, with UEFA and described the 'La Roja' celebration as "extremely provocative and insulting". It also described the chants as "unacceptable" and said that "there is no place in football for behaviour of this nature". 

UEFA admitted Gibraltar as a full member in May 2013 following a ruling by the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). The Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) and the Spanish government opposed this admission.
