Real Madrid's Alaba suffers rupture of the internal meniscus

The foundations of Real Madrid's defence are shaking. In one fell swoop, Carlo Ancelotti has lost three players at the back in a day too active for his medical services. The last one, David Alaba, is confirmed to have a new serious injury.
According to the club's third medical report on Tuesday, the Austrian defender suffered a “rupture of the internal meniscus of the left knee”, which will force him to undergo surgery and puts an end to his season, including the Club World Cup.
Alaba had to be substituted on April 23rd in the Getafe-Real Madrid match with discomfort that was initially reported to be muscular. The defender did not make it to the Copa del Rey final, the discomfort continued and after being absent from training on Tuesday he underwent new medical tests that determined that his problem is in the meniscus.
The most worrying aspect of the matter is that this injury occurs in the same knee, the left one, in which he suffered the serious rupture of the anterior cruciate ligament that kept him on the sidelines between December 2023 and January 2025. The 32-year-old Alaba is once again in the hands of the 'Merengues' doctors to overcome another ailment in the same joint. It is of a different degree, but it is still a tough blow for the footballer.
As we said, this is Real Madrid's third medical report in one day. The day began with Antonio Rudiger, who had to undergo surgery for a partial tear in the external meniscus of his right knee. He was followed by Ferland Mendy, with a rupture of the proximal tendon of the anterior rectus of the right quadriceps. Now it is Alaba who is out. In principle, none of the three will be able to play in the Club World Cup.
Thus, Real Madrid is now without five defenders. In addition to these three, Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao are also out. We could also count Eduardo Camavinga, who could have rotated with Fran Garcia at left back. The latter, along with Lucas Vazquez, Raul Asencio and Jesus Vallejo are the only fit defenders left in Real Madrid's first team.
