Real Madrid re-open talks with Benfica for Carreras

Real Madrid have rekindled their interest in Alvaro Carreras. The Spanish giants, having been quiet in the transfer market for a couple of weeks, have re-engaged with Benfica to reopen negotiations for the Spanish full-back.
This is according to 'Marca', who reported on Tuesday afternoon that the two clubs have re-established contact regarding the player. There now seems to be a willingness from the Eagles to sell, despite Rui Costa's previous denial of an agreement between the player and the 'Merengues'.
The aforementioned source indicates that the positions of both teams have moved closer, and a resolution could be found in the coming days. Fabrizio Romano has corroborated the news, suggesting that an agreement would be formally concluded after the Club World Cup.
It should be remembered that an agreement between Real Madrid and Carreras is already in place, with personal terms agreed upon since June. Only Benfica's approval is needed to green-light the move for a player who reportedly has only had eyes for the Spanish side.
The full-back recently participated in the Club World Cup, where he played in just two matches. A controversial yellow card - for hitting the referee with the ball - in the second group stage match against Auckland City saw him dropped from the team for the remainder of the tournament.
