Real Madrid 'long way short of' Man City, Arsenal and Inter, says Jamie Carragher

Real Madrid managed to book their ticket to the quarter-finals of the Champions League after being held to a draw in the second leg of the last 16 against Leipzig, in which an unconvincing performance was enough to see them through.

The Spanish giants were widely criticised by prominent football figures and were even whistled at the Santiago Bernabeu by their own fans. Former Liverpool defender and pundit Jamie Carragher was among those who criticised the 'Merengues'.

The former England defender criticised the performance of Carlo Ancelotti's side and claimed that much of the credit for the Spanish side's qualification for the next round of the competition was down to the atmosphere at the Bernabeu. "The aura of the Bernabeu and Real Madrid probably get them through," he said.

Moreover, Carragher went so far as to say that the level of this Madrid side is a far cry from that of reigning champions Manchester City and possibly Inter Milan or Arsenal. "I do feel they’re a long way short of certainly Manchester City, and maybe Inter Milan and Arsenal. I don’t think they’re up there when it comes to the best teams in Europe right now," he concluded.
