Real Madrid confirm Ferland Mendy's injury

Real Madrid announced on Thursday the injury suffered by Ferland Mendy in the Champions League round of 16 second leg against Atletico Madrid.

After 80 minutes of the match, Mendy pulled his hand on the back of his left thigh and asked to be substituted. This morning, the player went to the medical services of the club, who confirmed the left-back's complaint.

"Following tests carried out on Ferland Mendy today by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a hamstring injury in his left leg. His recovery will be assessed," reads the club's statement.

The left-back will not be able to return to Carlo Ancelotti's side until after the international break, and his participation in the quarter-finals of the Champions League is in jeopardy.

The France national team has already shared its call-up list on Thursday, which did not include Ferland Mendy. After recovering physically and putting in good performances for Real Madrid, the full-back was a strong candidate to return to Les Bleus, with whom he last played at the last European Championship. Now it is his turn to take another step back.

Against Atletico, Mendy was replaced by Fran Garcia. The full-back could be in the starting line-up this Saturday against Villarreal, although Carlo Ancelotti could use Eduardo Camavinga in this position again, either against the yellow team or after the break against Leganes, Real Sociedad or Valencia. It is around this time, just before Arsenal, that the Frenchman's return could be close.
