Rakitic: Yamal’s talent undeniable, but not a starter in Messi-Suarez-Neymar era

Ivan Rakitic spoke about the controversial debate-creating statements made by former Barca teammate Gerard Pique, who claimed that Lamine Yamal would not have been a starter in the Messi-Suarez-Neymar era Barcelona.
“Pique is right, Lamine would not have been a starter in our Barca. At that time we had the best attack in history with Messi, Neymar and Suarez,” Rakitic claimed. Despite agreeing with Pique's opinion on team selection, Rakitic was quick to praise Yamal's skills and potential.
“Lamine is incredible… I love his boldness and his joy. He must keep enjoying himself. For me, Lamine is always in my team,” the Croatian added.
Yamal, who has broken multiple records with Barcelona and Spain, including becoming the youngest player to reach 50 first-team appearances and winning the Kopa Trophy in 2024, has been widely praised for his impact at such a young age.
The debate highlights the high standard of Barcelona's legendary MSN trio, considered one of the most formidable attacking line-ups in football history. Rakitic's comments underline the challenge of breaking into a team like Barca at his age.
Although Pique and Rakitic agree on the hypothetical scenario, both have made clear their admiration for Yamal's progression and his exciting future at the club.
