PSG-Montpellier off due to Paris protests

Saturday's Ligue 1 clash between Paris Saint-Germain and Montpellier at the Parc des Princes has been postponed amid ongoing protests in the French capital.

The suspension comes following a request from police, with a new date for the game to be decided on in due course.

Violent protests have littered the country in recent days following a decision from President Emmanuel Macron to raise fuel tax.

However, the movement has now grown into a more widespread discontent with the current government, leading to the police avoiding any risk and simply cancelling the game in advance amid concerns about their ability to provide security both at the game and in the streets.

PSG now face two away games in succession as they travel to Strasbourg in Ligue 1 on Wednesday, before making the difficult trip to Belgrade to face Red Star next week in the Champions League.

Manager Thomas Tuchel had no complaints with the decision to postpone the game, saying: "We accept this postponement.

"We'll have to manage this situation to stay in shape before Belgrade. Security is absolutely important."
