PSG and Lyon account for 77% of Ligue 1 losses

PSG lost €109.9m last season although all Ligue 1 clubs cut their losses by less than half, according to the latest report from French football's financial gendarme.

The championship's 18 teams lost a total of 273 million euros during the 2022/23 campaign, down from 582 million a year earlier, according to the document from the National Management Control Directorate (DNCG), which analyses the financial health of French football.

PSG were 109.9 million euros in the red while Lyon were 99 million euros in the red, and between them they account for 77% of Ligue 1's losses. The Parisian club's losses are far less than the massive 368 million euros it lost in the 2021/22 season.

By contrast, Lille closed last season with a profit of €30 million, even more than the positive €22 million it recorded in the 2021/22 season. Seven other clubs recorded a positive balance, between Clermont's 14.9 million and Reims' 144,000 euros.
