Pirlo expresses regrets for players implicated in gambling scandal

Italy continues to be shaken by the 'betting case'. Several players, including Zaniolo and Tonali, are being investigated by the police in connection with gambling. The latter two have reportedly confessed to having gambled, but never on football. In the case of the Newcastle player, his entourage claims that he wants to "cure himself of his gambling addiction".

Andrea Pirlo regretted everything that is happening in 'Calcio'. "I'm sorry for what has happened, because they are young guys and they are an asset to our football. Seeing these guys involved  in these events is unpleasant," he commented on 'Il Festival dello Sport'.

"I spoke to my players today. Let's hope there are not any other cases. We have to be careful," he added.

The Sampdoria boss believes the youngsters should focus on not throwing their careers away: "They have the best job in the world and, it's useless to waste time on these situations. They have everything they want. They have money, success, fame. So to throw yourself away and throw away their careers for these things is really bad. We're sorry, Let's see, let's hope it's nothing serious," he said.
