"Parejo could play in Guardiola's City"

With Dani Parejo no longer a Valencia player, Gary Neville has been given some licence to speak about the Villarreal player in an interview with the 'The Athletic'.
The ex-Valencia coach, who only lasted at the club from December 2015 to March 2016, admitted he gave up on the midfielder, and was critical of himself for not knowing how to get the best out of him.
“He’s an exceptional player. He couldn’t play in a Jurgen Klopp or Sir Alex Ferguson team which relied on getting from box to box and moving the ball quickly and not taking too many touches, but he could play in a Pep Guardiola team — he’s that good”, he said.
"I let him down at Valencia because I wasn't good enough to get the best out of him", Neville continued, with the thorn in his side about seeing a better version of Parejo during his spell at the Mestalla.
In addition, he revealed that Parejo already wanted to leave Valencia five years ago, although he only managed to do so last season.
"He came to see me and asked me if he could leave the club. He said that he his time was over and that his relationship with the club was already broken. He was having a very hard time", he concluded.
