Paiva: "We'll need to be near perfect to take on PSG"

Although the Brazilian side picked up all three points, their display left much to be desired. Paiva acknowledged defensive frailties and insisted that improvement is essential if they are to stand a chance against the Ligue 1 champions.
"We didn't start well at all," Paiva admitted in his post-match press conference. "We gave the ball away too easily and made several technical errors. Gradually, we grew into the game and started to control proceedings. The opening goal settled us, and we had two excellent chances to extend our lead. Seattle didn't really threaten in that first half."
The second half, however, told a different story. "Physically, we dropped off," said Paiva. "We struggled to cope with the intensity and aggression they brought after the break. The substitutions didn't quite work, and defensively, we left ourselves far too exposed – pushing too many forward and not recovering in time."
With just three days until their showdown with PSG, Botafogo's focus now turns to recovery and tactical corrections.
"We'll need to address things through video work – there's not enough time for full training sessions, and most players will be focused on recovery," he explained. "We must look hard at what went wrong, because you can't make those kinds of mistakes against PSG.
"They're an outstanding side, capable of attacking in multiple ways. They're aggressive out of possession too, but also know how to manage the tempo."
Despite the below-par performance, Paiva was pleased with the result – but issued a stark warning ahead of the next challenge. "It's always good to win when you're not at your best – that gives us a bit of a cushion," he said.
"But we have to be honest with ourselves. This is a team that hasn't typically conceded many goals, and to get anything against PSG, we'll need to be far sharper, far more efficient, and have something close to a perfect night," he concluded.
