OFFICIAL: Real Madrid tie down Mastantuono until 2031

What had looked like a move to Paris Saint-Germain now turns into another major youth coup for Madrid, who continue their long-term strategy under incoming manager Xabi Alonso. Mastantuono will remain with River to play at the Club World Cup before joining his new club.
Madrid beat several European heavyweights to his services. PSG were particularly close, as confirmed by Fabrizio Romano, but the teenager has opted for the Bernabeu. His current contract with River was due to expire in December 2026, but no renewal came—and with that, his clause made him a target.
The Argentinian becomes the most expensive sale in domestic league history, surpassing Enzo Fernandez's €44m move from River to Benfica. Behind him are Lautaro Martinez (€25m), Rodrigo Bentancur (€21.7m), and Julian Alvarez (€21.4m). And all this before he turns 18 on 14 August.
Mastantuono only made his first-team debut at 17 but needed just 60 appearances to earn a move to Europe. He recently made his senior debut for Argentina, becoming the youngest player to represent the Albiceleste this century.
Although Madrid already have Arda Guler, the right winger brings a different dynamic. He's quicker, excels in one-on-one situations, and leads River Plate in both dribbling in dangerous areas and shots on target. His long-range shooting—particularly from set pieces—has already yielded standout goals.
Technically gifted and comfortable between the lines, he tends to operate from the right but often drifts centrally to link play and threaten the goal. He's particularly improved his end product in 2025, contributing seven goals and four assists in just 19 appearances this season.
