OFFICIAL: Nico Williams signs new contract with Athletic until 2035

Nico Williams went from hero to villain and back to hero again after weighing up a move to Barcelona before ultimately deciding to extend his stay at Athletic Club. On Tuesday, the forward signed his contract extension until 30 June 2035, pledging his eternal loyalty to the red-and-white side.
The event took place at the San Mames offices and was attended by president Jon Uriarte, football director Mikel Gonzalez, and his brother and captain Inaki Williams. Also present were his mother, Maria Arthuer, ambassador for Athletic's 125th anniversary, and his friends.
The player couldn't wipe the smile off his face as he spoke ambitiously about returning to Europe's top competition for the first time in 11 years: "We have highly ambitious trophies to aim for, like the Champions League, and what better place to do that than at the club of my life. I want to continue making history here at San Mames, with the fans and my family."
He also spoke warmly about his brother Inaki Williams, expressing gratitude: "We've both always dreamed of this moment. My brother is a role model for everyone, especially for me. I believe he is the best captain, and I'm looking forward to seeing him wear the armband for a long time."
Finally, Nico addressed the Athletic supporters, with whom leaving would have been difficult: "I hope to give my all in return for everything they have given me. I want to make them enjoy it as always. This is also for them. I have always felt great affection from them, and I'm very proud of the support I have."
