OFFICIAL: Liverpool seal €35m deal for Alexander-Arnold replacement Frimpong

Liverpool have sealed the deal for Jeremie Frimpong as a replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold, whose move to Real Madrid was confirmed earlier on Friday. The Dutch full-back joins the Premier League champions in a deal worth €35 million from Bayer Leverkusen.
"Liverpool FC have agreed the signing of Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. The Netherlands international put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Reds at the AXA Training Centre on Friday after successfully passing a medical," reads a statement from the Merseyside club.
With Alexander-Arnold preparing for his move to join 15-time Champions League winners Real Madrid on a six-year deal following the expiration of his Liverpool contract on June 30, Frimpong will be tasked with filling in the shoes of the England right-back.
“It went quite easy. Liverpool came and said they had interest, and obviously for me it was a no-brainer," Frimpong told 'Liverpoolfc.com' following the announcement. "For me, it was like, ‘Whatever you guys do, just get this done’, [speaking to] my agents: ‘Just get this done.’
"Liverpool fans, I’m going to give my all, my energy, my work-rate and hopefully we can win together, we celebrate together, get everything together. I’m just excited to be here. Thank you guys for accepting me, and I won’t let you guys down, and I’ll give you the energy that you guys want."
Having penned a five-year deal until June 2030 - according to 'The Athletic' - the 24-year-old becomes the first addition to Arne Slot's Premier League-winning squad and is set to face stiff competition from the highly-rated Conor Bradley, who recently extended his stay at Anfield until 2029.
Frimpong has been in the spotlight in recent seasons, becoming an integral part of Leverkusen's unbeaten title triumph and German double last term under former Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso. But the Spaniard's men failed to replicate their results this time round.
Bayern Munich reclaimed the Bundesliga shield after their 11-year streak was interrupted, leaving Leverkusen as runners-up. Despite their woes, Frimpong has put up a positive season in the German top flight, racking up five goals and five assists in 33 appearances.
Frimpong is not the only key player Leverkusen risk losing, as Florian Wirtz is also poised to land at Anfield this summer. Liverpool are the frontrunners in the race for the 150 million-rated midfielder after beating competition from Manchester City and Bayern Munich.
