OFFICIAL: Koeman to stay on as Barca coach

After weeks of rumours regarding a possible departure, the short-term future of Barca's dugout has finally been resolved: Ronald Koeman will continue at the helm for the 2021/22 season.

Over the last few days, the club had communicated to the Dutchman that they were looking for a potential replacement and that, in the case that they didn't find one, Koeman himself would stay on as manager.

Following many meetings between both parties and lacking someone else to potentially take charge, Joan Laporta communicated this Thursday 3rd May that the Dutchman will stay on as manager for next season.

"After this moment of reflection that we've taken, I would like to announce that we will be continuing with the contract that Ronald Koeman currently has in place", the Barca president assured in front of the media.

Thus, ex-Netherlands boss Koeman will take the reins in his second season as coach of the Catalan side. That being side, recent reports inform that the Dutchman has accepted a list of requirements set by the Barca directive, both economically (in the form of a wage cut) and in a sporting sense.

Over the course of his first season in charge of Barca, Koeman was able to get his hands on the Copa del Rey, although his side crashed out early in the Champions League (eliminated in the quarters by PSG), and faltered come the end of the league season, letting the title escape from their grasp in the five matches that remained.
