OFFICIAL: Edouard Mendy joins Al Ahli

It's no secret that one of the biggest factors that tempt football players to Saudi Arabia are the lucrative salaries that await them. Already some of the biggest names that have made the move this summer are Portuguese star Ruben Neves (Wolves to Al Hilal), and Senegalese defender Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea to Al Hilal).
Now, another Chelsea player makes the move to the Saudi Pro League, as Al Ahli announced on Wednesday the arrival of goalkeeper Edouard Mendy. He joins after three seasons with the Blues, and leaves with a Champions League title under his belt from the 2021 campaign.
The Senegalese keeper also took home the Africa Cup of Nations title a year later with the Lions of Teranga, but last season he struggled with the Blues, and only featured in 11 matches.
"Having started his career in the lower tiers of French football - and even spending several months without a club - Mendy rose to the pinnacle of European football with Chelsea," a statement on Chelsea's website said.
"A hugely likeable character on and off the pitch, he will always have a place in our history for his significant contributions to our 2021 Champions League triumph. For that, and for everything else, we are grateful. Good luck, Edou!"
According to transfer market specialist, Fabrizio Romano, the Blues will receive €18/19 million for the keeper, and Mendy himself will be on a salary of $12 million, plus $3 million in add-ons. The Italian has also reported that the contract runs until 2026.
