OFFICIAL: Chelsea sign Rennes midfielder Ugochukwu

Chelsea have announced their fifth signing of the summer: Lesley Ugochukwu. The Frenchman has arrived on a seven-year deal reportedly worth 27 million euros.

The 19-year-old made 47 Ligue 1 appearances for Rennes last season, as they finished 4th in France, and reached the knockouts of the Europa League.

"Ugochukwu has quickly built a reputation as a ball-winning midfielder and a good user of possession", read Chelsea's statement. "We’re delighted Lesley is joining Chelsea. He is an impressive young player who has already made his mark in Ligue 1".

"He has a huge amount of potential and we know he is going to continue to develop and improve. We are pleased that he has joined us in the U.S and that he will be able to integrate with the squad quickly".

Although yet to debut for France at the senior level, he has represented his country at under-17, under-18 and under-19 levels. He could be sent out on loan next season back to Ligue 1, this time for Strasbourg.

He follows the arrivals this summer of Christopher Nkunku, Diego Moreira, Nicolas Jackson and Angelo and joins a newly rejuvinated Chelsea squad under new manager Mauricio Pochettino.
