OFFICIAL: Atletico Madrid renew Pablo Barrios until 2028

Atletico Madrid announced on Monday that academy midfielder Pablo Barrios had renewed his contract for another three seasons from 2025 until 2028. That means he "becomes part of the first team for all purposes."

The 19 year-old joined the club from Real Madrid in 2018 and he has made the step up to Diego Simeone's first team. He is one of the club's young talents now and for the future. Therefore, Atletico Madrid have renewed him beyond 2025.

Pablo Barrios has now been included in the first team squad on 14 occasions and played in eight competitive matches for Atletico. His debut came in the 2-3 victory over Cadiz on 29th October 2021 when he came on in the 71st minute for Geoffrey Kondogbia. 

He has also played against Porto, Arenteiro, Elche, Oviedo, Barcelona, Almeria and Levante. He has scored two goals, bothj of them in the Copa del Rey: one in the second round against Arenteiro and another in the last 32 against Oviedo. 

"He is a guy who plays the ball without fear, with personality, without responsibility, without sacrifice, with vision and wanting to play the ball forward. We've been seeing for it a long time and he looks very good. We shouldn't rush him. Understand that everything's gone perfectly for him in this game, but he will have situations which will make him improve," Diego Simeone said after a 2-0 home win against Elche. 

"There is a player at the club who is going to grow and hopefully he remains humble. He listens, he wants to learn and that is good in football and in any job," Simeone added.
