Nigeria went one down thanks to a deflected own goal

In a first half where Croatia dominated possession, looking the more dangerous side, it took the help of a Nigerian midfielder to give them the lead. 

The breakthrough came in the 32nd minute, after Croatia won themselves a corner down the right. 

Luka Modric was the one to take it, and Ante Rebic got his head to it, flicking it on. Mario Mandzukic also threw himself at it, and his effort would end up counting as an assist.

The unfortunate 'Super Eagle' who found himself on the scoresheet was Etebo Oghenekaro, who watched in frustration as the ball rebounded off him into the net from two yards out, putting Croatia 1-0 up.
