Nations League Final Four: Semi-finals set for 2024/25 edition

Sunday's international fixtures delivered high-quality matches and confirmed the four nations set to compete in the Nations League Final Four. Over time, the competition has gained prestige, regularly producing top-level encounters such as those witnessed during this March break.
With Munich and Stuttgart as host cities, Germany, Portugal, Spain and France will battle for the title currently held by La Roja, who are also the reigning European champions. Luis de la Fuente's men will be determined to add a second Nations League trophy to their collection.
France and Portugal share the same ambition as both have previously won the tournament. Notably, no team has ever retained the title in the three editions played so far—a trend that could continue this year.
Hosts Germany are the only side in this Final Four yet to win the Nations League. In fact, this is the first time they have reached the semi-finals of the competition.
Germany and Portugal will contest the first semi-final of the 2024/25 Nations League. Julian Nagelsmann's side secured their place by eliminating Italy in a thrilling quarter-final tie, which ended 3-3 in the second leg. The Mannschaft made the most of their first-leg advantage to reach the semi-finals for the first time.
Awaiting them is Cristiano Ronaldo's Portugal, who had to dig deep after losing in Denmark. The Seleccao produced a dramatic comeback, winning 3-2 in normal time before scoring twice in extra time, with Trincao playing a decisive role. One of these two nations will book their place in the final.
Spain have enjoyed two golden years. As reigning Nations League champions, they followed up by winning the Euros last summer with the best football on the continent. Now, they return to the semi-finals of this competition—more than any other nation, with three appearances—seeking to defend their crown with emerging stars like Nico Williams and Lamine Yamal.
Standing in their way is Kylian Mbappe's France. In what will be Didier Deschamps' final Nations League campaign, Les Bleus—who defeated Spain in the second edition's final—aim to win the trophy for a second time, having edged Croatia on penalties in the quarter-finals.
This match will also be a rematch of the Euro 2024 semi-final, where Spain triumphed thanks to a stunning strike from Lamine Yamal—an unforgettable moment for French supporters.
