Naby Keita won't train with Werder Bremen squad

Naby Keita's career continues to go into freefall. The Guinean player, who joined Werder Bremen after finishing his contract with Liverpool in 2023, could only make five appearances for the Bundesliga club, so he did not have the opportunity to rediscover his best form.

The midfielder was slow to make his debut for the Bremen outfit due to fitness problems and his season was subsequently cut short by muscular problems that kept him sidelined until the start of 2024.

So far this season, Keita has played more games for his national team than for his club. Now back at Werder Bremen after his holidays, the club have announced that he will remain on the sidelines while he looks for a new destination.

At 29 years of age, it could be said that Keita still has a long career ahead of him, but his recent experiences do not give cause for optimism. Despite having a contract until 2026, the Bundesliga club are clear that they do not want to keep him.

"Naby Keita will no longer train with the Bundesliga team, but will continue to complete an individual training programme. This is the result of a conversation on Wednesday evening with Naby, his agent and the sporting management of SV Werder Bremen."

The midfielder could still be in contention for a top European club, but it remains to be seen whether the player is willing to work hard to regain his feeling on the pitch.
