Monza return to Serie B after three seasons in top flight

Monza are the first team to be relegated from Serie A this season after their 4-0 defeat to Atalanta at the U-Power Stadium on Sunday afternoon left them 12 points away from safety with only three games remaining.
Having registered only 15 points from 35 matches this term, the bottom table side are mathematically the worst team in Italy's top tier. Among their 24 losses and 9 draws, they were only able to claim victories twice - against Hellas Verona on October 21 and Fiorentina on January 13.
The 'Biancorossi' bid farewell to Serie A after three seasons, gaining promotion for the first time in their history in 2021/22. With Raffaele Palladino at the helm, they finished in an impressive 11th place in their first top-flight campaign in 2022/23, following it up with a 12th place in 2023/24.
But in a 2024/25 campaign full of changes, Monza were not able to replicate their form. They parted ways with Palladino last summer, opting to succeed him with Alessandro Nesta - a move that did not pay off for the Lombardia outfit.
Nesta was sacked and replaced by Salvatore Bocchetti before being called back in for the final stages of the season. But the former defender never looked close to turning Monza's fortunes around, as they find themselves 10 points away from their closest challengers, Empoli.
