Derek Llambias and Graham Carr met with Sandy Easdale, men who can be counted amongst Mike Ashley's trusted advisors - and who are heavily involved at Newcastle United - over a potential bid for the club.
Llambias was a former chief executive at Rangers during the period when Ashley held a stake in the Ibrox club, and Easdale himself still remains a shareholder.
Graham Carr previously held the role of Chief Scout at Newcastle, and the three were believed to have talked over a potential arrangement that would form a feeder club.
"I can confirm that Mr Carr, Mr Llambias and Mr Easdale were given a tour of the ground and the facilities and they met with the chief executive (Warren Hawke) and the manager (Jonatan Johansson) of the team," said a spokesman for Easdale.
"Their English friends believe that, with proper investment, Morton could be a feeder club for English leagues."
