Midtjylland eye Champions League return four years later

Looking back to 2020 brings back bad memories in almost all cases. Midtjylland were the exception, as they look back on that year with the sweet memory of their first-ever appearance in the group stage of the Champions League.

Four years later, the Danish side are in the final of the qualifying round of the continental competition. An all-or-nothing tie against Slovan Bratislava kicks off this Wednesday at 21:00 at the MCH Arena.

Midtjylland have the responsibility to take a positive result to Slovakia. A sporting project led by Thomas Thomasberg with players to be reckoned with. Among them, Franculino Gluda, Aral Simsir or Ola Brynhildsen.

They could only manage 2 draws in that group stage that they shared with Liverpool, Atalanta and Ajax in 2020-21. 1-1 against the Reds and the same result away to Bergamo. In that squad: Sory Kaba with the No 9, Pione Sisto, Frank Onyeka or Jens Cajuste.

Back to the present, the odds have changed and the Danes want to be direct witnesses of the new Champions League. With the league format, facing the best in 8 rounds and, this time, with the public in the stands. It only depends on Midtjylland.
